What is a Pluot?

A Pluot (pronounced plew-ott) is an adventurous cross between a plum and an apricot.
Each variety offers vibrant color, rich juice, overwhelming sweetness, and smooth skin. The Pluot was developed in 1989 through a natural process called hybridization - the breeding of two closely related plants.

The sweet apricot qualities cancel any sour plum hints and add a different flavor-twist to the fruit. Their sugar content is much higher than that of standard apricot and plum varieties, yielding fruit of incomparable sweetness.


Pluots Come in Several Varieties
There are now more than 25 distinctly different varieties of pluots grown commercially. The varieties vary in color from golden yellow to green to dappled red to almost black and are available from late May through October. Just think of it as a bowl of jelly beans- each pluot variety has its own distinctively delicious flavor, appearance, color, and size.
